CareOps Maeumi Terms of Service

Effective 22 October 2026

Update on 22 October 2026: Article 9, paragraph 1 has been corrected to match the counselor plan application process. You can pay after applying. If a counselor has not been assigned when you pay, our team will assign one within 24 hours after payment and notify you. Prices and refund conditions are unchanged.

Update on 27 October 2026: Article 12 now sets a usage period for session credits (one year from purchase). Credits you have already bought can be used for one year from 27 October 2026.

This English text is provided for convenience. The Korean version is the original and governs if the two differ.

Chapter 1. General

Article 1 (Purpose)

These terms set out the rights, obligations and responsibilities of SafeOps LLC (“we” or “the Company”) and its members, and the conditions and procedures for using the CareOps Maeumi service (“the Service”).

Article 2 (Definitions)

  1. “Service” means the AI counseling conversations, self-tests, records of feelings, thoughts and practice, counselor feedback and all related features we provide through the CareOps Maeumi app (iOS and Android) and website (careops.kr).
  2. “Member” means a person who agrees to these terms and the privacy policy and creates an account to use the Service.
  3. “Maeumi” means the AI counseling companion we provide. Maeumi is not a person; it talks according to the counseling approaches and safety principles we set.
  4. “Session” means one counseling session with Maeumi. The first session is an initial consultation, and a session ends when it is wrapped up in conversation.
  5. “Counselor” means a counseling professional contracted with us to give feedback to counselor-plan members, or one connected to a member through in-person counseling.
  6. “Paid service” means a service a member pays for, such as a plan (subscription), session credits (single or bundle) or a counselor plan.
  7. “Store” means an app marketplace such as the Apple App Store or Google Play, where the app is downloaded and paid services are purchased.

Article 3 (Posting and changes)

  1. We post these terms on the app’s sign-up and payment screens and on our website (careops.kr/terms) so members can easily find them.
  2. We may change these terms within the limits of applicable laws, including the Act on the Regulation of Terms and Conditions and the Act on the Consumer Protection in Electronic Commerce.
  3. We announce changes and their effective date in the app or on our website at least 7 days in advance. Changes unfavorable to members are announced at least 30 days in advance and notified individually by app notification, email or similar means.
  4. A member who does not agree to the changed terms may terminate the agreement (delete their account). If we clearly stated, when giving notice under paragraph 3, that not objecting by the effective date will be treated as agreement, and the member does not object, the member is deemed to have agreed to the changed terms.
  5. Matters not covered by these terms follow applicable laws and our separate notices (such as pricing and usage information).

Chapter 2. Membership

Article 4 (Forming the agreement)

  1. The agreement is formed when an applicant separately agrees to these terms, the collection and use of personal information, and the processing of health information (sensitive information), applies for membership, and we accept the application.
  2. You can sign up with a username and email, or with Kakao, Google or Apple sign-in.
  3. We may refuse an application, or later terminate the agreement, if:
    1. someone else’s name, email or sign-in account was used;
    2. false information was given, or required information was left out;
    3. a person whose use was restricted for violating these terms signs up again; or
    4. sign-up is attempted by automated means.

Article 5 (Eligibility and legal guardian consent for children under 14)

  1. People aged 14 or over may sign up and use the Service themselves, and confirm on signing up that they are 14 or over.
  2. Under Article 22-2 of Korea’s Personal Information Protection Act, a child under 14 may use the Service only with the consent of their legal guardian. We obtain that consent as follows:
    1. If you indicate at sign-up that you are under 14, we also collect your guardian’s email address to request consent. It cannot be the same as your own email.
    2. We email your guardian a consent request. Your guardian opens the link, reviews the information about these terms, the collection and use of personal information and the processing of health information, and chooses “I agree” or “I do not agree”. The email and link contain no personal information about the child.
    3. The consent link works for 7 days, and the email can be resent from the child’s app screen.
    4. Until your guardian agrees, use of the Service is on hold and the app’s features cannot be used.
    5. If your guardian declines, or does not agree within 30 days of the request, we promptly delete the sign-up information.
    6. After agreeing, your guardian may still ask us (thomaskim104@safeops.kr) to access, correct, delete or stop processing the child’s personal information, or withdraw consent. We will confirm the guardian’s identity and act promptly.

Article 6 (Managing your account)

  1. Members manage their own account, password and sign-in methods, and must not let anyone else use or take them over.
  2. Members must tell us immediately if they learn their account has been stolen or is being used by someone else.
  3. We are not responsible for losses caused by a member’s failure to follow paragraphs 1 and 2, unless we acted intentionally or negligently.

Chapter 3. The Service

Article 7 (What the Service provides)

We provide members with:

  1. AI counseling conversations with Maeumi (text and voice), held as sessions and informed by established approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy and acceptance and commitment therapy;
  2. an initial questionnaire, self-tests and explanations of results;
  3. self-record features such as feelings and thought records, practice and tasks, and a safety plan;
  4. counselor plans, in which a counselor you apply for and we match sends you direction and tasks regularly, based on your conversations with Maeumi;
  5. account connection, messages, bookings and documents with a counselor you see in person; and
  6. other services we develop or offer through partners.

Article 8 (Nature of AI counseling and points to note)

  1. Maeumi is an AI, and its replies are generated automatically according to the approaches and safety principles we set. If you ask, Maeumi will say that it is an AI.
  2. The Service is not a medical practice under the Medical Service Act or a medical device under the Medical Devices Act. Maeumi and the Service do not diagnose illness, prescribe or advise on medication; diagnosis and medication are decided in psychiatric care. You can use the Service alongside medical care or counseling.
  3. Self-test results are information for reflecting on how you are now; they are not a diagnosis.
  4. The Service is not an emergency service, and neither we nor counselors respond to crises in real time. If your safety or someone else’s is at risk, contact emergency services right away (in Korea, 112 or 119, or the suicide prevention line on 109; elsewhere, your local emergency number).
  5. For your safety, we record crisis signals that appear in conversations and, for members connected to a counselor, may notify that counselor to the extent the member agreed. Crisis alerts do not include the conversation text.

Article 9 (Counselor plans)

  1. You can pay for a counselor plan after applying in the app. If a counselor has not yet been assigned when you pay, our team will assign one within 24 hours after payment and notify you. Counselor feedback starts once both payment and assignment are complete. If a counselor has already been assigned to your application, the plan starts as soon as you pay. Applying alone does not charge you.
  2. The counselor sends feedback (direction and tasks) on the number of days and weekdays you chose. A counselor plan is not real-time counseling, and counselors do not promise immediate replies beyond the scheduled feedback. However, a counselor who receives a crisis alert will check in once by app message within 24 hours.
  3. If you agreed when applying, your counselor can read the full text of your conversations with Maeumi. Otherwise, the counselor receives only a summary.
  4. You can ask in the app to change counselors, and we will match a new one ourselves. Your payment, frequency and weekdays stay the same.
  5. If a counseling organization you belong to pays (organization seats), the plan starts with your consent and you do not pay separately. The start and end of such a plan also follow the contract between that organization and us.

Article 10 (Changes to and suspension of the Service)

  1. We may change the Service for operational or technical reasons, and give advance notice of important unfavorable changes as in Article 3.
  2. We may temporarily suspend all or part of the Service for unavoidable reasons such as maintenance or replacement of equipment, outages, natural disasters, or outages of external services (stores, AI providers, cloud and so on).
  3. If we end the Service, we will give notice at least 30 days before, and refund unused paid services under Article 14.

Article 11 (Notifications)

  1. We may send notifications needed to use the Service, such as session reminders, appointment alerts, counselor feedback and test reminders, by app notification or email. Members can turn them off in the app’s notification settings and in device settings.
  2. Promotional information such as new features, discounts and events is sent only to members who separately agreed, and never between 9 p.m. and 8 a.m. Members can withdraw that consent at any time.

Chapter 4. Paid services

Article 12 (Types of paid services and prices)

  1. Our paid services are as follows. Each product’s contents, price and conditions are shown on the payment screen, and what is shown there forms part of these terms.
    1. Plans (auto-renewing subscriptions) — plans with a set number of new sessions per week, and a plan without a limit
    2. Session credits — one or more sessions bought at once, used up as you use them, with no weekly limit. Credits can be used for one year from the date of purchase (credits bought before 27 October 2026 can be used for one year from 27 October 2026). The oldest credits are used first, and credits not used within that period expire.
    3. Counselor plans (auto-renewing subscriptions) — by number of feedbacks per week
  2. A plan’s weekly sessions are counted Monday to Sunday in your device’s local time, and unused sessions do not carry over. Conversation within a session you have already started does not use additional sessions.
  3. We may offer the first session free to new members, or charge from the first session for some members, and run pricing differently in other ways. The price that applies to you is what is shown on the screen before payment.
  4. We may offer promotions such as limited-time sales, first-subscription discounts and gift codes, with their conditions shown on the relevant screen.

Article 13 (Payment and auto-renewal)

  1. Paid services in the app are paid through the store’s payment methods, and payment, receipts, auto-renewal and cancellation follow each store’s policies.
  2. Unless you cancel, a subscription renews automatically on the same terms at the end of each period and you are charged. You can cancel in the store’s subscription settings at least 24 hours before renewal, and keep using it until the end of the current period.
  3. Upgrading takes effect immediately and the store settles the difference. Downgrading takes effect from the next billing date.
  4. We may change prices; price changes unfavorable to current subscribers are notified in advance and agreed to as required by store policies and applicable laws.

Article 14 (Withdrawal and refunds)

  1. Maeumi plan first-month refund — If the service isn’t right for you within one month of your first payment for a Maeumi plan, you can get a full refund of the first month (once per person).
    1. On iPhone you can ask Apple for the refund from the plan screen in the app; otherwise, write to us at thomaskim104@safeops.kr.
    2. Apple decides refunds for App Store purchases. If Apple declines a first-month refund request, we will refund the full first-month price ourselves.
    3. To handle a refund request, we may share usage information about the purchase (such as how long and how much it was used) with the store. We do not share your conversations.
    4. After a refund, your plan ends and Maeumi only remembers your first free session. Nothing is deleted — if you subscribe again, Maeumi remembers the rest again. You can always read your past conversations yourself.
  2. Counselor plan first-month refund — If you ask within one month of your first payment for a counselor plan, we will transfer to you the first-month payment minus the counselor feedback already received (KRW 6,000 per feedback), once per person. You can ask from the plan change screen in the app or by writing to us.
  3. Session credits — Unused session credits can be withdrawn within 7 days of payment. Withdrawal is limited for sessions already used, under Article 17(2) of the Act on the Consumer Protection in Electronic Commerce.
  4. Other cases — Refunds not covered above follow applicable laws and the store’s refund policy. Refunds for store purchases are, as a rule, made through the store.
  5. If you could not use a paid service because of our fault, we will refund the unused period or sessions, or extend your use.
  6. Refunds where use was restricted for violating these terms follow applicable laws.

Article 15 (Partner discounts)

  1. Partner discounts are only for members of schools and organizations we partner with. Membership is confirmed by a school email, a partner code handed out by the partner, or a student ID you upload in the app, and each partnership has its own period and discount.
  2. As a rule, partner discounts apply to the first subscription of members who have never subscribed through a store, and cannot be combined with other discounts.
  3. If we find that someone used a partner code without being a member, passed a code to someone who is not a member, or verified with someone else’s student ID or an altered photo, we may cancel that account’s discount eligibility and restrict its use of the Service.

Chapter 5. Rights and obligations

Article 16 (Our obligations)

  1. We follow applicable laws and these terms and work to provide the Service reliably.
  2. We protect members’ personal and health information under our privacy policy. Conversations sent to external AI services are sent with identifying details such as names and contact information masked.
  3. We do not provide members’ conversations for training AI models.
  4. We run a support channel for complaints and feedback, handle what we receive promptly and report back on the outcome.

Article 17 (Members’ obligations and prohibited conduct)

Members must not:

  1. steal another person’s personal information or account, or impersonate someone;
  2. infringe the intellectual property, reputation or privacy of the Company or others;
  3. reverse-engineer, copy or disassemble the Service, or access it by automated means (bots, scraping and so on);
  4. instruct Maeumi to bypass its safety measures (such as prompt injection), or try to use the Service to create unlawful or harmful content;
  5. disrupt the normal operation of the Service or put excessive load on its servers;
  6. abuse partner discounts, promotions or refunds;
  7. use the Service commercially without our consent, or sell or transfer access to others; or
  8. otherwise break applicable laws.

Article 18 (Restricting use)

  1. If a member breaks Article 17, we may restrict use in stages such as a warning, temporary suspension and termination. For serious violations or violations of law, we may terminate the agreement immediately.
  2. When we restrict use we tell the member the reason and period, and the member may object through our support channel.

Article 19 (Rights to content)

  1. Members own the conversations, records and test answers they enter (“member content”). We process member content only as needed to provide, maintain and improve the Service and keep it safe, as set out in our privacy policy.
  2. Rights in the Service and its components (software, design, the structure of counseling approaches, text, trademarks and so on) belong to us or their rightful owners. Copyright in the original scales behind the self-tests belongs to their original authors.
  3. Members may freely use for personal purposes what the Service produces for them, such as Maeumi’s replies.

Article 20 (Deleting your account and data)

  1. Members can delete their account at any time from the You screen in the app.
  2. When you delete your account, the data you created in the app is deleted immediately — except information we must keep by law (such as payment records) and counseling records written by a counselor that are kept under applicable laws and the counseling organization’s policies.
  3. Deleting your account does not cancel a store subscription, so cancel it in the store’s subscription settings before you delete your account.

Chapter 6. Liability and disputes

Article 21 (Damages)

  1. If the Company or a member breaks these terms and causes loss to the other, the party at fault (intentionally or negligently) compensates for that loss.
  2. Unless applicable laws provide otherwise, our liability in connection with a paid service is limited to what the member actually paid for that service, except for losses caused by our intent or gross negligence.

Article 22 (Limits of liability)

  1. We are not responsible for failing to provide the Service for reasons beyond our control, such as natural disasters, war, power cuts, network failures, or outages of third parties such as stores, cloud services or external AI providers, unless we acted intentionally or negligently.
  2. We are not responsible for problems using the Service that are caused by the member.
  3. We are not responsible for decisions a member makes based on the Service’s content (including Maeumi’s replies and test results), or their outcomes, unless we acted intentionally or negligently.
  4. We have no duty to intervene in disputes between members, or between a member and a third party, that arise through the Service, and are not liable for resulting losses, unless we acted intentionally or negligently.

Article 23 (Governing law and jurisdiction)

  1. These terms and disputes about the use of the Service are governed by the laws of the Republic of Korea.
  2. Disputes between the Company and a member about the use of the Service are resolved in the court with jurisdiction under Korea’s Civil Procedure Act.
  3. Members may apply for mediation to bodies such as the Korea Consumer Agency or the Korea E-commerce Mediation Committee.
  4. If a translation of these terms differs in meaning from the Korean original, the Korean original prevails.

Addendum

These terms take effect on 22 October 2026.
