Read our full editorial standards →An important moment from counseling can become harder to recall after a few days. New questions may also come up between appointments. A few short notes about what happened, how you felt, and what you want to discuss can help you return to the conversation.
At a glance
- Between sessions, note an event, how you felt, what you did, and what you want to ask next.
- If you have a plan set by a human counselor, keep that plan at the center and use Maeumi to carry it into daily life.
- Notes you write with Maeumi are not automatically shared with your existing counselor. Choose what you want to share and how much.
Keep notes short and specific
You do not need a detailed account of every thought. A reminder such as “Tuesday’s meeting upset me, and I kept thinking about it at home” may be enough to help you explain it at your next appointment. How practice between sessions connects to whether counseling works is covered in does counseling work?.
If writing becomes tiring or keeps you going over the same thoughts, shorten the note or take a break. You can tell your counselor that the exercise itself was difficult.
Four prompts for a useful note
| What to record | Example |
|---|---|
| What happened | I was trying to speak at a meeting and stopped. |
| What I felt and thought | I was nervous and felt like I would be ignored if I made a mistake. |
| What I did and what happened next | I wrote down the question but couldn't say it. |
| What I want to discuss next time | I want to explore the moment when I stop just before speaking. |
These prompts help you prepare for a conversation. They are not a diagnostic tool or a rating scale. Fill in only what helps, and change the wording to suit you.
Note who you could turn to between sessions
You may feel more comfortable discussing some concerns with friends than with family. The 12-item MSPSS explores perceived support from family, friends and a special person. Try the CareOps adaptation, then look at what help you need in each relationship alongside the total.
Try a self-assessment without signing inMSPSS · Social supportIf you want to take a look at who you feel you can lean onStart the check →Write one sentence about whom you could ask, for what, and when. For example: “Ask a friend on Wednesday evening if they can listen for ten minutes.” If nobody comes to mind, bring that to your next counseling session.
Using Maeumi alongside your counseling plan
You can tell CareOps Maeumi, “Help me organize what I want to discuss at my next counseling session.” If you have an agreed goal or exercise, describe only the relevant part in your own words. Discuss changes to treatment or medication with your clinician.
You do not need to enter your counselor’s real name or a full transcript. Leave out other people’s sensitive information too. Decide which notes you want to discuss at your next appointment; using the app does not automatically send them to your counselor.
When not to wait for your next appointment
If symptoms worsen or you are worried about your safety, seek help before your next appointment. Ask your provider how to reach support between visits. For immediate danger, contact local emergency services or go to the nearest emergency department.
A brief note can make it easier to describe an experience to your counselor. Choose what you feel comfortable sharing and use it as a starting point for the next conversation.
